Re-post of Josh and Anna Duggar Arkansas Wedding Reception

Josh and Anna Duggar Arkansas Wedding Reception Photos.

To get a bigger version of the photos below, double click on them.

This is a re-post of the story from October. Read my comments on the jump. I re-posted because I let the lease expire on the site where I originally stored the images, so there are no pics on the original thread.

Jim Bob Duggar and son (can you guess which?) greet guests as they arrive.

Jim Bob Duggar taking pictures of guests as they enter the event.

The stage is set as the classical musicians strum away. I believe that is Jessa Duggar at left.

At the punch bowl. At left is the recently deceased J.L. Duggar, fondly remembered grandfather.

A young man looks toward two of the Duggar daughters (in purple). Children and wholesome young ladies abounded.

Josh Duggar gives a thumbs up to the idea of being married to Anna as she looks on with approval.

Michelle Duggar greets a friend warmly.

Jim Bob and Michelle talk it over.

Josh addresses the crowd with Anna at his side.

Anna favors the camera with a smile.

Anna and Josh cut the cake, with the knife shinning with a brilliant light. Jim Bob and Michelle watch with pride (no, not THE BAD KIND) back right.

All right, here is what I saw at the reception....

The room at the huge 1st Baptist Church in Springdale had a nice ambiance. I think I found where the Greek pillars from the Democratic convention wound up. Just kidding on that one, but they did have Greek pillars, and if I could describe the atmosphere in two words it would be "traditional" and "civilized".

The Query family provided the musical entertainment, playing on classical instruments.

Of course there were a lot of children and young people in the room. In spite of that the atmosphere was very calm.

When I say "traditional" I don't mean it strictly in the mainstream American way. They have their own traditions which are slightly different than what you may be used to. I will cite examples in a bit.

When I say the atmosphere was "civilized" I mean it in about every way. The proceedings were civilized in a way that the radical secularists who sneer at the Duggars can never attain.

After mingling, Josh and Anna took the stage. Josh has a good stage presence, especially for one so young. After a brief talk, they showed a video of their wedding on the big screen.

Now the wedding video was very curious to me. It was a strange mixture of light-heartedness and somber duty. For example, during the ceremony the best man pretended that he did not have the ring. The groomsmen all said they did not have it, and the best man bolted down the isle of the church and out the back door. Seconds later, he re-appeared with the ring. That had to be staged, and would seem to take away from the solemnity of the occasion.

Then Jim Bob took the microphone from the minister and said "you may kiss the bride". That's right, the groom's father is the one who pronounced that line, not the minister.

Jim Bob also looked at him and said that the first command of the bible was to "be fruitful and multiply". Oh man. You are 20 years old and Jim Bob Duggar is your dad and he tells you as part of your wedding ceremony to "be fruitful and multiply"! No pressure, right?

The call to "let God decide how many children you have" was repeated twice during the ceremony. I take that to mean no birth control just as the Catholic church teaches, or maybe even beyond it.

Anna Duggar is all for this. When my pregnant wife and I met her she commented that they hoped to join us soon in being with child. Anna looks good in the pictures, but she looks better in person. I don't think the still shots can capture the animation in her face.

I can see why Josh says that he reminds her of his own mom. Besides liking the idea of having babies, they both have very expressive faces and the same sort of "inner light" for lack of a better term.

After the video, they cut the cake and did the toasts. About that time, we headed for the door. We hope for the best for this young family.

Gratuitously grifting for hits? Or is this a lead up to yet another Duggar on the way?

How creepy is this? Josh's only experience with women is his baby-factory mother? So sad that such young kids are getting married so young and their only goal in life is to start their own baby factory. Josh has said he would like to be a lawyer...it is tragic that his formal education ended at 16 with a GED from the School of the Dining Room Table and now, 4 or 5 years later, his dream is now unattainable. Jim Bob and Michelle have very little education and the only thing they are preparing their children for is to be good little Quiverfull foot soldiers and continue in the family business of HAVING BABIES! Bill Gothard must be very happy!

Not creepy at all. There is a traditional song "I want a girl just like the girl that married dear old dad". IT was a sweet sentiment then and now. Only a mind in the gutter makes it out to be creepy.

And the world does not need more lawyers. We need to lose half the ones we have now. Good fathers, those we need.

You sound a little bitter? Why?

Excuse me for sounding a "little bitter". It is just because radical secularists have coarsened our culture, destroyed our society, and turned our great country into a cesspool. You think sounding "a little bitter" is over-reacting?

Being a native Arkansan i was somewhat taken aback when i saw that this family had actually earned a spot in the national spotlight by having so many children. Having been raised Catholid i thought.. we should all be so lucky, that's not such a big deal... But after watching just a few episodes I really like the Duggar's they seem like really sweet down to earth people. I am actually surprised that they actually agreed to expose their very wholesome family to such an experience. I know they have their reasons and all i have to say is better them than Jon & Kate Plus 8!

If more families were like the Duggars, this would be a much better world.

The Duggar family are a guilty pleasure of mine. Even though I don't think I would be happy living a life like theirs, I find that watching them restores my faith in humanity. Josh and Anna are adorable. The wide-eyed innocence they bring to being newlyweds was so refreshing to watch. To the many people that find fault with families like the Duggars, keep it to yourself. If there were more families like the Duggars, with morals and a true sense of right and wrong, the world would definitely be a better place. Keep up the wholesome family entertainment Duggars and for the folks out there that like something more true to life, turn on TLC on Monday nights. Jon and Kate's ongoing drama should keep you very entertained!

Whenever I need to get away from this world we now live in; all I need to do is watch a Duggar show. It is so discusting to look at the young KIDS on myspace bragging about being pregnant and no hubby or dad for the baby! God bless the Duggars, all of them!!

To the anonymous post, what do you mean? You're taking offense to someone saying God bless the Duggars? Since when is it a crime to bless someone? It's not at all.

These kids are going to be in for a shell shock when more and more people move closer to them that are not, white, Christian and originally from the U.S.

I live in Canada myself, born here and I cannot believe that people like the Duggars exist.
Very simple (and sometimes very narrow) minded about things.

Very scary and odd, I must say.

@ 8:05 (Canada): Is it possible that you could be the narrow-minded one? While the Duggars' decision to have so many children is certainly not something I would want to adopt for my own life, their values and traditions are something to be proud of. Perhaps it's all the Christ-haters that are really the odd ones out? Just my opinion.

Is 'leaving it up to God' a new tend at weddings these days? The last thing on my mind on my wedding night were kids. I went to Christian wedding and never heard this nonsense. The ticker for me was when Annas dad said her authority transfered from his to Josh. Is this the 19th century? I would have freaked if anyone said that at my wedding. IMO the Duggars are no different than the Gosselins. They place their lives on TV for all to see and the kids have no choices. Christian doesnt make something better. I dont agree with all the Gosselins do but I could sit down with Kate Gosselin and have a better converstion with her than Michelle. Kate seems like the kind that could be your bff. The secularists arent ruining the world but al the exteme Christians who see the world in black and white.

I meant to add there are extremes of all kinds but some just stand out and are more vocal than others.
