House Education Chair Opposes Christian Prayer

Since Representative Joyce Elliott is Chair of the Arkansas House Education Committee, as well as co-chair for the Facilities Education Committee, those statements on prayer really galls us parents who have children in our public schools. Surely the legislature could have put someone in that position who represents the views of Arkansans. Eighty to eighty-five percent of Arkansans want prayer back in school. Now just what kind of prayer would Representative Elliott want the House to include?
Additionally, Representative Elliott voted against:
HB1119 To ban homosexual adoption. She was one of 13 out of 100 voting against this bill.
HB1033 An act to require parental consent before performing an abortion on a minor. Again, there were only 13 votes out of 100 against this bill.
HB1136 The school textbook marriage protection act that requires Arkansas textbooks to use the traditional definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman. Elliott was one of 34 out of 100 voting against this bill. Someone mentioned the cost of keeping our traditional marriage in the textbooks. The cost, in every way, if we do not, will be national regret.
Why would the legislature place a person as head of the educational committee whose values are so opposed to the legislators and the parents of the children in our public schools? How is the educational chair put in that position - by vote or some other way? I would really like someone to advise me.
Many people think this statement of Separation of Church and State appears in the first amendment of the U. S. Constitution and therefore must be strictly enforced. However, the words: "separation", "church", and "state" do not even appear in the first amendment. The amendment reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...." This entry to the Constitution merely means that we may choose our own religion without the involvement of government and they will not interfere in our free exercise of it. So, H.R.1005 would contradict the Constitution.
1. This discussion on prayer quoted above took place in view of Representative Buddy Blair's proposed House Resolution 1005 on Separation of Church and State. See link: http://www.arkansasnews.com/archive/2005/02/13/News/317301.html

Where did we get this Joyce Elliott? She certainly does not represent the views of the majority
of legal residents of Arkansas. Why would any taxpayer ever propose
to allow in-state tuition for children of illegals? They are breaking the law and we are going to continue to give them taxpayer
dollars. Why aren't we deporting
these people who are not paying a
dime in taxes. We are supporting them already. I will be living in
Joyce Elliott's district when she
comes up for re-election. I will not only vote against her but I will campaign against her.
