Contrary what recent misleading articles on HB 1525 would lead you to believe, the bill, which would in-give state tuition rates and state sponosred scholarships to the "children" of illegal aliens who were brought over when their parents broke immigration laws to come here, is still alive and kicking. It could not get the needed four votes in committee, so its fate will be determined once the senator who can cast a tie-breaking vote recovers from back surgergy. Seeing how this person, Sen Wilkins (D-Pine Bluff) is co-sponsor of the bill, HB 1525 will alsmost certainly be referred to the senate for a vote. It is currently expected to get the 18 votes it needs without a problem.

Is it not maddening to be a vocal constituent of tone deaf legislators nowadays? It's insane that our legislators vote against any legislation that would help restore control to our immigration processes, and now they're pushing bills that rob taxpayers of yet more money to give tertiary education to people who are not citizens of this nation! Pinch me!

Can the citizens of Arkansas change this? Our time is limited...

Seeing as how it is almost certain to go to the full senate, maybe we should get folks to call their state senators right now, urging them to vote against HB1525. What are those contact numbers again?

Another vote on HB1525 is scheduled for Monday morning, March 7th. Seeing how the Senate Education committee took so long to come up with a dead-lock vote, it may be possible to exert enough pressure on one of the other three who voted to push it through in order to get them to change their vote.

If one of the following is your state senator ( Lookup your senator here ), it is very important that you call and express your disappointment with the way the committee is preparing to pass HB1525 on to the senate for a vote:
Jim Argue (Chair), Jimmy Jeffress (Vice Chair), Dave Bisbee, Steve Bryles, Hank Wilkins, Shane Broadway, Gene Jeffress.

If none of the above is your senator, you should still call whoever is your senator in anticipation of a full senate vote. Don't forget to mention your desire to see SB206 passed as well.

From an artice in the March 3rd ADG:

"This is not an issue about being a bigot," Bisbee said. "We are a nation of laws. It’s about the law."
Jimmy Jeffress said he wavered back and forth on whether to vote for the bill. Holding back tears, he said he’d vote for the bill. He said he’s not as rigid as he used to be and "losing my marriage" years ago taught him "to bend." He said Arkansas needs to take to heart the words on the Statue of Liberty and have a "golden door" for people to enter.

Jimmy Jeffress is a good candidate for a change of vote...
