(continued)..Holt writes,"A special order of business will be to vote on HB1525 this Wednesday,March 2, 10am in the Senate Ed committee. Call all who will to call the capitol and urge the committee members to vote against this bill. The numbers are 501-682-2902, 2903, 2904. Urge all the Judiciary committee to vote for SB206. Again, thank you so much. Keep up the good work."

SB206 refers to Holt's own bill which would make it harder for illegal aliens to get non-emergency state public benefits. It would also strengthen protections against non-citizens voting in American elections.

Holt is requesting that all senators be contacted to vote against HB1525 in the Senate. He asks that members of the Judiciary committee (shown below) be contacted to get his bill out of committee.

Chair: Senator Ed Wilkinson
Vice Chair: Senator Jim Luker
Senator Kim Hendren
Senator Sue Madison
Senator Irma Hunter Brown
Senator Mary Anne Salmon
Senator Jerry Taylor

If your senator is one of these individuals, Holt requests you use the numbers above to ask them to support SB206.

Another good reason to vote against HB 1525 is that it could cost us a lot more money. This was excerpted from another website....

"According to Federal law, if a state offers discounted, "in-state" postsecondary tuition aid to foreign nationals illegally residing in the United States, it is prohibited from charging any out-of-state student higher out-of-state tuition rates. The state and its public institutions must offer the same aid to all legal U.S. residents regardless of residency.

However, in violation of this federal law, some states currently give tuition breaks to illegal aliens, but charge American citizens from other states higher tuition fees.

If you are an out-of-state student attending any public postsecondary school in one of those states and are paying the higher tuition rates, you may be entitled to a refund.

Please send us an email with your name, telephone number, the school you attend, the difference between out-of-state tuition fees and in-state tuition fees per unit, and the amount that you feel you've been overcharged."

This could cost Arkansas taxpayers a bundle.

Mark Moore is right. Federal law mandates a fair and uniform treatment of all post-secondary students whether they are Arkansas residents or not.

"In 1996, Congress passed a federal statute specifically prohibiting state governments from giving in-state tuition to illegal aliens (Title 8 U.S.C. Section 1623). Congress declared that no state may give in-state tuition benefits to illegal aliens without extending the same benefits to out-of-state U.S. citizens."

Who slipped up on this one? The governor is responsible to know federal law, at least sufficiently so as not to put the State at odds with Washington. If he doesn't, the Attorney General is there to assist him. But, to push legislation that will not knowingly pass muster in the courts, is patently irresponsible. Will the real culprit be courageous and step forward? Don't hold your breath!

Governor Huckbee's suggestion regarding free college education to ILLEGALS is pure communism (redistribution of wealth).

Someone should tell him that the Communist party is now allowed to operate inside Arkansas (Thanks to Jodie (let it all hang out) Mahoney, but that he is REPUBLICAN (though in name only)

What is WRONG WITH HIM??????

This is aiding a Federal Felon. It is childish to pose the arguement that other states are doing it and therefore, we should to. We used to be told not to jump off of cliffs into lakes when following another.

It's amazing how much we do for felons in this country. A prisoner can get a free secondary education as well. It's getting to be where the law abiding citizen is the only one not benefiting from government yet is the only one paying for it.

Finally, IF THE STATE HAS ENOUGH MONEY FOR THIS....DON'T RAISE MY TAXES IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM FOR ANYTHING ELSE!!!!
