Holt wants Apology For Race-Baiting Claims (Jim Holt, R-AR)

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Sen. Jim Holt, R-Springdale, asked for an apology Thursday From Gov. Mike Huckabee and everyone who said he was race-baiting by writing a law to deny state benefits to illegal immigrants.
Holt was emboldened by an attorney general's opinion released Thursday that said a bill backed by Huckabee to extend college scholarships and in-state tuition to the children of illegal immigrants may violate federal law and the U.S. Constitution.
After reading Attorney General Mike Beebe's legal opinion Thursday, Holt said: "It's nice to be vindicated."
Beebe said the Huckabee-backed education bill, which was proposed by Rep. Joyce Elliot of Little Rock, could violate a federal law that says the children of illegal immigrants cannot receive higher education benefits unless they are also available to U.S. citizens who are residents of other states.
Elliot's bill only offers the tuition breaks and state-sponsored scholarships to immigrant children who attended Arkansas high schools for at least three years and who graduated from an Arkansas school.
