Senator Dave Bisbee (r-Rogers) reported on KURM radio that debate on the bill lasted from ten in the morning until late in the afternoon. The Senate education committee was deadlocked 3-3 on the bill, locking it up in committee for the time being. Bisbee warned that the seventh member of the committee, who was not present due to a hospitalization, would probably vote to pass the bill onto the full senate.

The bill, which has the support of Governor Mike Huckabee, has already passed the house. If it gets out of committee the full sentate is the last chance to stop it. Bisbee, who seems to oppose the measure, said that he felt the bill, "would have a hard time passing the Senate".

State Senator Jim Holt of Sprindale is the leading opponent of the bill, and has publically called for citizens to contact their own Senators and ask them to vote against HB 1525. The senate contact numbers are 501 682-2902 (and 2903, 2904)
