Blogs are speculating all over the state that first district Congressman Marion Berry will not run for re-election. Understand that this is a rumour only. The Arkansas Times blog is talking about this possiblity originating at a Rural Development Conference in Hot Springs.

The other eye-brow raiser from that event is that Asa Hutchinson was the only gubenatorial candidate to show up. Not bad for a guy who has a job in D.C.. One wonders what happened to the other two.

Several names have been suggested as an opponent to Berry, should he appear vurnerable or his seat open up. Chief among them are legislator Shawn Womack and Mayor Stubby Stumbaugh.

Someone in the east let us know, does Berry have a problem over there? Who might run for his seat?

I've heard for quite sometime that he has a girlfriend. But I can't imagine that that would prevent him from running. Nonetheless, if he doesn't run, Mayor Stumbaugh is the clear winner in the Republican Primary and the general election.

Look for former State Senator Kevin Smith (D) of Helena, to lead the ticket for the Democrats. However, I don't think this ticket will open up till 2008.

Also, as a Christian, may I warn you my brother in Christ, that idle gossip is not Christ-like. I have known Congressman Berry for some time and NEVER has there been a question of infidelity. If there is, then at that time, that is an issue his wife, he, and God, with maybe the assistance of his pastor need to work out. But, I find it uncomfortable that this blog has a Christian perspective, but we lead a double-standard.

Mark, also Asa, while showing up for the conference, has left the Cabinet, so he doesn't have a job in D.C. Also, Attorney General Mike Beebe has been making many of these appearances, including the one welcoming home our troops.

Let all things we do, glorify Christ.

Drew,
Thanks for criticizing those who would talk about Marion's possible infedilities - but you didn't seem to mind attacking a Republican for "living a double life" because his brother got a divorce. You are a democrat hack who will say whatever helps you at the moment.

Drew,

If you have known the Congressman well for some time then you are in perfect position to set the record straight. Can you call him up and get the real story and then tell us? Is he considering not running? Are people in his district mad at him? Why?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I do not speak for Congressman Marion Berry.

Also, I find it unique that someone who wishes to attack me, does so anonymously. You show your own lack of character by not speaking to me directly.

What I stated is public record vs. rumor.

It's a vicious rumour and lie to say Marion Berry is being unfaithful in his marriage. There is no basis for this.

Asa Hutchinson's silence on his brother's infidelity is a matter of public record.

Can you show me where Asa Hutchinson condemned his brother's infidelities???

I find these comments very amusing. The questions to Drew have not been answered. If he knows the Congressman well he could very easily answer Mark's questions and put all the gossip to rest. We have come to summarize that you are all saying we have imperfect men running for office. Will we ever have any that will be perfect? I don't think so. I believe that a man's morality dictates his philosophy. Therefore many men who should not run for office will to push their immorality off on us. The liberal agenda is immoral. Therefore a man that is willing to run on the liberal side is going to have to support abortion, gay rights, welfare etc. Where is the morality in this? Therefore I strongly believe that supporting a liberal canidate no matter how conserveative is supporting immorality.

Sure, he refused to campaign for him and did not vote for him as he was voting in Virginia. That sounds like condemnation to me...

What do you want a brother to do. I am sure he had many conversations with him in private, but I would think less of him if he tried to benefit from the divorce by publicly denouncing it. Focus on the candidate Drew, not on family members.

Do you want to start examining Beebe's or Win's personal lives - they are not good - not to mention their family members.

I don't like the tone of this entire thread. It's all based on gossip and what did Christ say about gossip??

Susan, shame on you for what you wrote. Its written in ignorance, anger, and based on lies.

Marion Berry has never ONCE been accused of infidelity, except by someone on this blog. Considering they had no evidence, it's a vicious lie, and definitely, speaking ill of a fellow brother this way, is sinful.

Drew, I agree with you but to quote the scripture about removing the speck from your brothers eye when you have a beam in your eye. You are without any knowledge attacking Asa for not denouncing his brother and for living a double life. You would have a lot more credibility if you lived by your own admonitions.

First of all, I never quoted the scripture about the speck and the beam. I suggest reading what I wrote first.

Second, Asa Hutchinson's actions are a matter of public record. That is worth critique and discussing.

Thirdly, it is not fair, to say someone is running around with a girlfriend when there is no truth, or public record on this subject.

Finally, lets talk issues, not idle gossip.

Marion Berry hangs out at the bar in the Holiday Inn in Jonesboro all the time...FACT

Ummm....highly doubtful....highly doubtful, since he is a U.S. Congressman. Also since I doubt he is flying back and forth between D.C. and Jonesboro ALL THE TIME like you just posted!

Second, going to a bar, does not make someone having an affair.

Get a grip and I suggest removing the plank in your own eye, before you wrestle with the speck in other's eyes!

Not a fact....Gossip....pure and simple. Gossip that is sinful, on top of that, thank you!

Say what you will, Marion Berry is an alcoholic who I have personally seen at the bar in Jonesboro and I don't go to places like that often, but he sure does. FACT.

I don't suppose you would want to give your rumour some crediabilty by saying you saw Marion Berry when he was truly inebriated and putting your real name to the story would you?

If not, I have to discount your claim. I don't like to encourage baseless rumours, but seek the truth.
