Drafted by Win Rockefeller

I got a letter from Lt. Governor Win Rockefeller the other day. The envelope said “welcome to the team, your bumper sticker is enclosed”. Oddly enough, I don’t ever remember signing up for his team. Perhaps I got drafted. If so, I want to talk to my agent!

It is much more likely that Rockefeller’s staff decided to be a bit presumptuous and act like the automatic Republican nominee. You understand that I am not endorsing Asa Hutchinson. I still have some questions that trouble me about Asa, as well as many things that I admire. Still, I find myself mildly annoyed that the Lt. Governor assumed my support rather than asking for it. I will not be herded. Nor will many of you!

In the letter itself he says, “The name Rockefeller opens many doors. I know when doors open I must be twice as good when I walk through.” Does he have to be twice as good? Twice as good as who? Does he actually think that he has to be twice as good as Mike Huckabee? Or maybe he means Asa Hutchinson. The paragraph is not clear. Maybe he should be twice as good at written communication!

The letter states his desire is to make Arkansas “a shining star of the South”. I guess that is trying to tap into that “City on a Hill” speech by Ronald Reagan (how I love the memory of that great man!). But Reagan explained in detail what he meant by that imagery. He painted a picture with words. Rockefeller can only write “we can do this by making our tax code more business and family friendly, creating good jobs, and insuring all Arkansas children receive a top-notch education.”

As for myself, I don’t really believe that growing government can really do any of those things, but it can waste a lot of your money and mine trying.

He writes that we need to “create an able work force” by “building a 21st century educational system”. Reading between the lines, that is more of the same “workforce education” bilge that liberal Republicans have been trying to cram down conservative throats for the past decade.

I don’t want to turn your local school into a taxpayer-funded training facility for whatever big business curries the most favor with the political class. I don’t want something that narrowly educates children for a specific field, which comes at the expense of transferring a core body of common knowledge. “Work force education” is a “21st century” educational system that sounds a lot like the Soviet system. How did that work for them?

Besides insinuating that he was a vital part of the 9/11 response effort, he also claimed to have helped clean up the Arkansas Republican Party. Let me tell you something. The Arkansas Republican Party is a mess. And he was one of the insiders as it was messing up. The Republican Party of Arkansas was recently assessed with the biggest FEC fine of any state party in the history of the FEC. It more than doubled the previous record. He brags that he did not give the money needed to cover their debts himself, but raised it. He does not mention that one of the FEC violations was that he and others already gave more than the allowable maximum. The party still needs to raise the money to pay the huge fines the FEC gave them.

The Republican Party of Arkansas will not be cleaned up until the insiders become the outsiders and the outsiders become the insiders. I hope that happens someday, but I don’t expect it to. Win Rockefeller is one of the very most inside insiders.

“Me father’s greatest gift to me was not my last name but my first” he intones. It is an effort to sound lofty, but it comes off as being silly. I would say that character would far outweigh even a last name. I would say that $400,000,0000 is also a great gift, but it does not stop him from repeatedly asking me for money.

Sign me,

Looking for a new team.

I wished people would stop using vain words when posting. Mark I got the same letter. I figured I got it because I was once his campaign manager in Ashley County. But that was before I saw the light.

I will not support him for Governer and most like will not support Asa.

I'm conservative and voting Hutchinson!

Blogger Mark Moore (Moderator) said...

I am still open to voting for Asa. That is different from SUPPORTING someone. Supporting someone is loaning your name, and energy and money to theirs.

What holds me up?

Two things. One of them is frustrating, because I cannot talk about it here. I am not even sure if it is not some mistake. If the situation ever changes and I feel I can come forward, I will.

The other thing is the borders. Not only was he an abject failure at securing the borders, he stuck with the administration line on it until the end- and the end was much slower coming than it would have been with me. If it was clear that my boss only had me SAY I was there to keep illegals out, but I was really supposed to turn a blind eye to it, I'd have resigned. I just got the strong impression that he was playing the game, and going with the flow.

We desperately need the flow to be disrupted!

It appears to me that the Hutchingson Family want to create a political dynasty like the Kennedys and the Bushs. This is one reason I fear Asa. I dont want one family dominating the political system in this state.

I think the dynasty thing is silly. Far more troubling is Huckabee's vision of his and his wife's name on everyhting in Arkansas.

I live in the fourth congressional district. The Hutchingsons have never spend much time in this area because they feel it is a watse of time. And when they loose in this area I always say, "Well they didnt deserve anymore votes here.

Blogger Mark Moore (Moderator) said...

There is another Hutchinson that is a state rep. in central Arkansas, and rumour has it that former Senator Hutchinson's first wife is looking at running for the legislature in Benton County as well!

I don't know if that means they are obsessed with power, but it is hard to believe that with all the conservative talent in those parts of the state that the best people for the job(s) are all named Hutchinson!

2:22 PM, June 01, 2005
Blogger Mark Moore (Moderator) said...

Saying all that, I do respect Asa's record in Congress, and that he has lived his life in a virteous manner. I respect him for that. Really, Win has lived his personal life in a worthy manner as well. It is just the issues here. I don't have anything personally negative to say about either of these men.

2:25 PM, June 01, 2005

The central arkansas legislator who is Jeremy Hutchinson is term limited and he has told people he will just be practicing law. I don't know about any other Hutchinson's in office except Timothy in Benton County. IF Asa wins that's 2 - hardly a dynasty and again Asa has earned his notoriety. Win inherited it.

The reason that the Hutchinson family has held so many different offices is because of their track record. To my knowledge no Hutchinson has ever voted for a tax increase. Terry if your concerned about government growth that should mean something to you. Not voting is a waste. Maybe you don't love everything about Asa, but he's not nearly as bad a WinRock or Beebe.

I can't think of any other group of people who have so frequently been on the side of limited government. The Hutchinson family has earned its reputation as conservative by always trying to cut taxes and by trying to limiting spending.

There are only 3 blog sources that let you comment:

Thank you and I want you to know, we may disagree, but it doesn't mean we cannot be friends. Also, I am sure when we all get to heaven, and trust me, unlike what some like to say I will be there, then it will all be just a load of nonsense.

Thats the beauty of Christianity, the love of Christ, and creation. We stomp our feet, scream, postulate, and try forever to bend creation to our will. Yet in the end, it's the work of Christ, as the Creator, who determines the finish. I know as a Christian, if I was wrong in what I say, the Spirit would challenge me. Yet since I came out, was honest, and have tried to live a moral life of integrity....I have had peace.

I guess it does challenge one's own preconceptions and interpretations of the Bible. But then we all are flawed creations, aren't we?

Drew,

I choose not to debate the sinfulness of the homosexual lifestyle here on this blog, that is best done over fine cigars and warm brandy.

I am convinced and have peace in the fact that if you are called by our Sovereign Lord, He will convict you of your sins and sanctify you. While I can rightfully judge your lifestyle as sinful, God does not grant me the authority to condemn you by determining you ultimate eternal destination.

On that day, if we both are privileged to stand before the King, I hope we will have stories to exchange about how He cleansed us of our respective impurities.

As for Hutchinson, who knows? It also says on GOOGLE that Bush Chairman Marc Racicot wrote him a letter of recommendation. As for raising money, how much did you raise? As for what kind of guy he is, well I'd like to drink a beer with him and then I'll tell you. Have you drank a beer with him? Probably not. To tell you the truth, I am now a Stuart Jones supporter and I don't even know who the hell he is.

So, who is an 'authentic' person these days? Who comes to your mind that is politically involved and that you really know? You certainly are no example of authenticity posting angered statements about someone as accomplished as Stuart Jones appears to be after doing a simple search on him.

Why don't we do this. You state your real name for the reading audience and I will GOOGLE you and then I will GOOGLE Stuart Jones. After that, let's compare who is the more 'authentic' person. I am willing to bet its not you.

I am GOOGLING R. Stuart Jones now.

So far R. Stuart Jones has:

Wrote some somewhat amusing and interesting articles back in 2001 or 2002.

Is studying or was studying at the University of St. Andrews as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar. I am a member of Rotary and this is a big time scholarship. It is worth $25,000 or more.

Selected as a Presidential Management Scholar and is working or worked for the President.

Was a national director for the college republicans and raised and spend $21 million dollars. Maybe Stuart should go to work for Asa.

Was quoted in the Washington Post about getting youth involved in politics.

Rumored to run for Congress in 2004.

Was interviewed by Free Republic which I happen to really like.

Worked and campaigned for President Bush in Naples, Florida and is quoted in some local paper.

These are just a few of the things I have found by searching his name. Like I said before, I would like to drink a beer with him. Now what is your name so I can get started?

As for my family's lawyer, I am sure Mark has one. But we would need an attorney to take the trace and file a suit, like a civil suit, eceterra to the offending party. Then we would have to prove it. If the owner of the computer cannot prove it was not them, then they are liable.

This is so silly... but I thought I'd bring my opinion about the 'integrity' of the character because if, as someone mentioned it, RSJ happens to be running for some important political position in the United States, maybe my testimony will make some of you change their minds:
I think Jones had a girlfriend back in the US when he came to St A's, a blond, pretty. I'm quite sure he decided not to tell her how many times he cheated on her in that year...

Is that republican? both to cheat and not to tell that you cheat?

I used to work as a waitress in a place where Jones used to come have dinner. A few times I saw hime grab my girlfriends' arses as they put the plate down in front of him/ he could not do it to me, we knew each other well already...

Now, does that promote the values of the Republic?

You will maybe say that it does not matter what he is like personally so long as he makes the right, efficient decisions politically- Or you will say that my comments have not place in a political debate-

Well, I will answer, sometimes the truth helps.

Also, not so long ago, two hundred years of so, on your continent, some men fought with words and conviction, to the peril of their lives so that all of you would have the right of citizenship, the right to be free of mental and physical coercion and decide a way to give a fair share of existence to all. This right comes with a duty not to be herded, or sleep walking by adopting the ready-made opinions offered by your media- to be more clever than that for the sake of truth and of your ancestors' memory.

This sounds a bit corny maybe, but if you are touched by these words, please go beyond them, reach to the ideas they embody rather than just perceive their sentimental form.

How do you know I am not talking rubbish? Why would I? I am not from the U.S. and I probably never will go there.

This is a complete free of charge comment just because I have 10mn to spare this morning-

Ha, ha. This is funny. Stuart is a stud, but this story sounds ridiculous.

I hope to see him elected one day because he is a super leader and someone that many have great trust in.
