Control or Out of Control?

Who would want his money in a bank whose president was a known embezzler?
Who would desire for his town a fire chief who was a known arsonist?
Who would personally employ a lawyer who was known for breaking the law?
Certainly, no one in his right mind. But in the State of Arkansas, we have a five-member
Alcoholic Beverage Control Board that is clearly out of control!
Anyone reading these lines is surely familiar with the petition by Sam’s Club to sell alcoholic beverages along with other merchandise. On Wednesday, 20 July last, in Little Rock, the ABC Board met in public session to hear Sam’s Club’s petition along with the opposing voices.
Of all the voiced and written views against the petition, one voice stood out taller and sounded out louder than all. It was the Law! Passed by the Arkansas Legislature and signed into law by the Governor, it clearly states:
AR 3-4-218
No new liquor permit shall be issued to, nor any outstanding liquor permit
be transferred to any person, firm, or corporation wherein the permitted
premises of the liquor permit-tee is operated as part of the profit making
business of any drug, grocery, sporting goods, dry goods, hardware, or any
general mercantile stores or any other business unrelated to the retail package
sale of such liquor.
Yet, what has been called the "the law" was effectively emasculated when the "Out-of-Control" Board raised its nose to the air, sniffed a whiff of booze and voted blatantly to allow the petition.
The Arkansas Code specifically regulates members of the Board as well; to wit:
3-2-101.
Interest of enforcement officers in alcoholic liquors prohibited.(a) Neither
the Director of the Department of Finance and Administration nor any officer,
employee, deputy, or assistant thereof shall have any direct or indirect
interest in or on any premises where alcoholic liquors are manufactured
or sold, nor shall he have any direct or indirect interest in any business
wholly or partially devoted to the manufacture or sale of alcoholic liquors
or own any stock in any corporation which has any direct or indirect
interest in the premises where alcoholic liquors are manufactured or sold
or in any business wholly or partially devoted to the manufacture or sale
of alcoholic liquors.
(b) Any person violating any provision of this section shall, in addition to the
penalty provided in this act, forfeit his office or employment or be removed
therefrom.
Is it not time for an investigation of the Board itself? Do any of the sitting members of the Board have stock in WalMart? Do any of the members have an "interest" in alcoholic sales? Maybe there’s a "good ‘ole boys’ club in the treehouse. Governor, you appointed ‘em. Maybe it’s time to get off the exercise bike and take a look into the business of state.

...and I think "Eli" is getting onto the ABC board more than the Governor. The board is split between Dem and GOP I think.
I am really disapointed with the ABC. Two members who claim to be Conservative voted in favor of the Sams Club.
The ABC board is packed with republicans fool! look at the chairmen! The kickbacks can be seen from anywhere.
anyone can look at the headlines on the blog and tell that it is not devoted to bashing Republicans. Are you a party hack? Are blogs not allowed to report bad things about your party?

We are conservative, but not partisan. That means when a Republican does things that are not conservative, we get on them. When a Republican needs to do their job, we point it out.
There are LOT's of Republicans in my neck of the woods that say worse things about Gov. Huckabee than you have ever read from my keyboard. Do you think Republicans are somehow above critisim?
This attitude that Republicans can do no wrong, or if they do we should hush it up, is a much bigger threat to the Republican party than the Constitution Party is. It is a bigger threat than the Democratic party (which already has the same mindset). It is a bigger threat because it is a reciepe for corruption.
Being open to thoughtful, valid critism is important to keep a person, or a political party, from sliding off course.
But if you want to try to shoot the messenger rather than listen, or even dispute, the message- then be my guest. More and more Republicans are becoming blind partisans such as you seem to want to be. That is good for the CP.
Screw Mike Huckabee and the crooks that serve as his bagmen. You are gonna be up a creek when you try to go national as you run for the White House. We WILL expose you.

2010 was not going to be just another new year for me , but a unimpaired new decade. While most go down goals relating to body issues, financial goals, career advancement, relationship pleasure -- I decided to overcome my addiction, specifically my porn addiction.
