Editor's Note: The American Familiy Association of Arkansas has joined Laurie Taylor in making some claims about inappropriate books at the Fayetteville Public School Library. Someone has challenged their figures, which are schocking. Below Bob Hester and Debbie Pelley give the search links to document that their figures are the correct one, and that "diversity" at Fayetteville public schools seems to be a codeword for the Homosexual Agenda.
**********************************************
What Diversity Means

In regard to the Fayetteville school library books controversy where a parent wanted books moved from the students' shelves to the parent section, the following information is enlightening.

The Fayetteville online catalog reveals they have the following number of entries (books) under the following subjects:

sex- 502 compared to 152 under drugs;
sex instruction-66;
homosexuality-53;
lesbians-23;
abstinence or sexual abstinence-3;
homosexuality fiction-25;
lesbian fiction-12;
rape fiction-16;
gay fiction-10;
witches fiction-209;

Compared to these paltry few entires on traditional American diversity.....

Jewish Fiction-2;
Afro American Fiction-2;
Indian fictions-1;
Hispanic Fiction- ;
multicultural fiction-1;
incest fiction-9;
abstinence fiction-0.

For those who didn't know already, now we know what diversity is all about - the homosexual agenda!

The concern parent has developed a list of 20 books with summaries as to why they are unsuitable for children without parental consent. These books contain vile, obscene language, anti religious themes - like asking yourself "what would Jesus not do." Homosexuality, restroom sex, anal and oral sex, sex addicts, sex with AIDS victims, bisexuality (threesome relations), transgender sexual orientation, bestialty, and raw sex scenes are included in these books. One of the books was partially published in Playboy and proceeds from one of the books will go to Gay and Lesbian Groups. You can Google "Summaries of 20 Shocking Books at Fayetteville, Arkansas" and find this list.

Is this what Arkansans want in the school library?

Following are the figures given in the e-mail challenging the above figures. As she suggest, please go to the site and for yourself and check the figures and compare her figures and ours........

"When I entered “sex”, there were 304 entries, not the 502 claimed. They report finding 66 books on “sex instruction” where my search turned up 53,My search turned up 50 under “homosexuality”, 16 under “lesbian”, and 25 under “homosexuality fiction”. These numbers were all similar, though slightly less than the numbers claimed by the pro-censorship e-mail. The astounding differences o ccur in the following findings. My keyword search numbers are first, their claims in parentheses. “Jewish Fiction” 211(2), “Afro American Fiction” 105 (2), “Indian Fiction” 300 (1), “Hispanic Fiction” 36 (1)(And under “Spanish Fiction” there were 387). They then use their numbers to ask “Is This Diversity or and Agenda? And we wonder what is wrong with our kids?”
I think there is definitely an agenda going on, but it is not on the part of school librarians, gays and lesbians or parents who wish our children to be educated and not indoctrinated. But don’t take my word for it. Go to the web site listed above, do your own keyword searches and see which set of numbers you find."

By all means, please do check out the information to see which figures are correct. Debbie Pelley

Oh, you guys and your "homosexual agenda" again...can't you get off it? Hey! Try this...how about reading all those books instead of just looking for the spicy parts? Or would that let the light into your dark little craniums? How about exercising a little of that valued and vaunted parental control at home...then you won't have to worry what other parents tell their kids about the facts of life...heck, you won't even have to worry about what your kids see, because you will have taught them well...quit being so frightened of everything. Remember, they're just books!

Thank you wingnut's for a excellent laugh. Next thing you know you wingnut's will tell us Bush is honest and doesn't lie. Don't forget to tuck your kids in tonight and tell them the wingnut fairy will get them if they don't have a "republican" dream. God bless the first amendment!

THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU! BECAUSE OF WINGNUTS LIKE YOU. THIS IS HAPPENING. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

In a sign that the GOP majority in the House is suffering under the weight of Tom Delay, Duke Cunningham and its ethically challenged membership,(AND WINGNUT'S LIKE YOU) fundraising numbers released by the National Republican Congressional Committee reveal that the GOP's fundraising has slowed down. The House GOP's campaign arm is the only campaign committee (of the six campaign committees in DC) to report slower fundraising in comparison to last cycle at this time.By this time in 2003, the NRCC raised a little more than $45 million. This cycle, they've raised almost $40 million, about $5 million less. Every other campaign committee has reported a boost in their rate of fundraising, although the Senate GOP has about half of what the Senate Democrats have in the bank -- The Senate Democrats have $15 million while the Senate GOP has a paltry $8 million.

WHERE in the world did those of you who commented get the Republican and Democrat references??? I saw only concerned individuals who believe that children shouldn't be "programmed" by those in positions of power in govt. schools.
Apparently you have no answers to Pelley and Hester because all you do is namecall and change the argument into a tired political diatribe. Very weak!

Who made this about homosexuality, or ideology I thought this was about parents being able to parent and schools and teachers and librarians working for parents to educate children not indoctrinate them to secular humanism. All those who oppose this effort never defend the material on it's merits because it has none. It is absolute hard core porn intended to desensitize children and demoralize them. Those of you who want this material available to your children (doubt you have any) please feel free to share it with them but the rest of us don't want our children to be sexually assaulted especially at school.

This was not about parenting- any parent could keep their child from reading those books- this is about controlling what people in Fayetteville, Arkansas get to read- and therefore think. I found discrepancies on the site myself- for example, there were book quotes taken out of context.
They claimed that Sanchez's gay romance series (which is meant to teach gay teens about safe sex) was for kids age 12 and up- The School Library Journal says it's for 10th Grade and up. There are more outright lies on the site, as well. Also, I have all of Toni Morrison's books- they totally mischaracterized her stories- they claimed that Song of Solomon is unrealistic & that it makes kids think that adults should behave that way.
If your 16 year old can't distinguish fact from fiction, books are the least of your worries.
