Without Win, Will Chuck Banks Jump In?

Questions continue to swirl about the political plans of former deputy Attorney General Chuck Banks. He has raised an impressive $79,000 while spending only about $5,000. He has raised the money, but for what office?

He was first mentioned as a candidate for Lt. Governor. Then the rumour had it that he would switch to the Attorney General's race. The departure of Lt. Governor Win Rockefeller from the Governor's race opens up another possibility- that Banks will actually run for the GOP nomination for Governor against former Congressman Asa Hutchinson.

Watch for the comings and goings of Win advisor Richard Bearden. If he gravitates to Banks, it could indicate a run for Governor is in the cards.

Does anyone have any information that could support or undermine this hypothesis?

I hope Banks will run for A.G. instead. We need a good candidate in that race since Childers is out.

The bigger question is will Marion Berry run again with his girlfriend problem.

If he does not, what other Dems will run? Can Stubby Stumbaugh beat either Berry or another Dem in that district?

Bearden is helping Banks' campaign but he is not running for Governor. Everybody is rallying around Asa. He will be the nominee.

It sounds like you have an inside source, 6:54. Do you, and if so can you tell us what Mr. Banks WILL be running for?

Arkansas politics is full of surprises these days.

Only a fool would run against Asa. Banks is no fool. He's staying in the Lt.'s race. Bearden's smart enough to tell Banks to stay in the Lt. race. Banks has a much better chance of beating an unfunded Jim Holt and Doug Matayo then a cash flush Asa.

Asa is the nominee. Let's get behind him, put bumper stickers on, contribute what you can. We can't let Beebe become Governor.

I am not ready to get behind anyone just yet, and it appears I now have lot's of time to think it over.

So I wonder if the poster two up really knows if Banks is going for Lt. Governor, or will he try AG instead?

Is the Arkansas Constitution Party going to run someone for governor in '06?

There is some sympathy for giving Asa a chance to make his case so that we at least decline to run someone. Others want an alliance with the Libertarians if our joint nominee is clearly pro-life. Others want to run our own candidate. The leadership team will make the final decision after they are elected at our Sept. 10th convention.
