Rumors have once again surfaced that Springdale State Senator Jim Holt is going to drop out of the Lt. Governor's race and endorse another candidate. I called Jim up and asked him to comment about this.
"I'm running for Lt. Governor. I am committed to the race." Holt said. With a hint of exasperation in his voice, he noted that,"someone keeps floating these rumors around. If it is people who are supporting someone else, they need to focus on saying why people should vote for their guy, not re-floating baseless rumors about me."
As to why he would be the target of such rumors Holt said,"People know that our support is strong. The person in front is always going to be a target."
I talked to him about rumors that the Eagle Forum was no longer supporting him as evidenced by reports that millionaire Rick Calhoun- Eagle Forum board member, was going to run for Lt. Governor.
Did that mean that Holt has lost the support of Rick Calhoun and other Eagle Forum members?
"I never met Rick Calhoun until after the U.S. Senate election. I don't know that he was ever a supporter. The President of Eagle forum is Betsy Hagan, and she is supporting me. She is very strong about that. I believe I have the support of Eagle Forum members, and I value their support."
He did not say it, but I got the impression that Jim Holt felt if only Eagle Forum members could vote, he would win a contest between himself and Mr. Calhoun hands down.
Rick Calhoun plays in Governor Mike Huckabee's band, Capitol Offense. State Rep. Doug Matayo, the other announced candidate, was Governor Huckabee's floor leader in the house. It is well known that Mike Huckabee and Jim Holt have had sharp policy disagreements. One wonders if there is not a hidden hand behind all of this drumming up opposition to Holt.
I think we are fortunate to have a candidate for Lieutenant Governor like Jim. Some people, even Republican leaders in the state, who have become accustomed to political correctness, won't be supporting Senator Holt. However, there are numerous citizens, like myself, who are fed up with political correctness and are longing for sincerity and truth which they find in Senator Holt and are more committed to him than any candidate for whom they have ever worked. That is the reason Senator Holt won 44% of the vote for US Senator last year against an entrenched incumbent by spending only $100 thousand dollars compared to six million by the incumbent Blanche Lincoln. Many people didn't give to his campaign because they didn't think he could win.
If we, the rank and file of the Republican Party, don't commit ourselves to helping Senator Holt get elected, are we doing all we can do in the cultural battle? Big business and liberal Republicans will give big money. I believe Senator Holt can win with far less money than an opponent. He has won all his campaigns that way. But he has to have enough money to get his message out and to fight the battle. Chuck Banks, who is running for Lt. Governor, has already raised $80,000. If we pass up this opportunity to help a man with this integrity, then do we have any right to complain in the future about hypocritical and corrupt politicians. Or will we be getting the kind of leaders we deserve?
Senator Holt just poured hours of his time and faced a lot of heat in the fight against Sam's Club in Fayetteville. No other legislator or candidate that I know of helped him in this battle. In fact, Republican Horace Hardwick testified for Sam's, and some other Republican legislators sided with Sam's in their efforts to obtain a permit to sell liquor. Senator Holt was the only legislator that stood with Laurie Taylor at the Fayetteville School Board meeting opposing the vile books in the library at Fayetteville School library for which he was bashed and called a grand stander by one newspaper. Senator Holt was also the Republican that led the fight in the immigration battle, opposing the Governor and some other Republican legislators. Senator Holt was the only senator that scored 100% on American Family Association's evaluation where they scored legislators on 10 to 15 Christian and social issues.
Please join me in showing your commitment to Senator Holt by making a contribution to his campaign. Most of my income comes from teacher retirement, but I have committed the maximum contribution which is $2,000 per individual to his campaign. It is that important to me, and I trust him that much. I hope it is to you as well and that you will send him a contribution at 2835 S. 5th Street, Springdale, Arkansas AR 72762.
US Representative Tancredo in Colorado has gained a great deal of notoriety because he, too, refuses to be politically correct and has faced the heat because of his immigration stand. However, he said the money for his campaign came from eighteen thousand contributors, with some contributions as low as $3.00. He still won with 60% of the vote. We can help Senator Holt do the same thing here in Arkansas.
This letter came from the burden on my heart and is in no way initiated or connected to Senator Holt's campaign.

Holt's situation and Tancredo's are absoloutely nothing alike.
This is a sad statement of fact, but, to win political elections in this country it takes money. Rick Calhoun will have over $500,000 for this Primary. Unless Jim can raise that much money he will lose to Calhoun. I love Jim and would love to see him in this office; however, there is no way Jim can raise that kind of money. Jim should stay in the State Senate where he can be effective for our cause. He needs to continue to build support and develope a larger donor base.
Jim stayed pretty close last time and was outspent by Lincoln at least 40-1, and she was the incumbant with great name recognition! If he had only been outspent 10-1 he would probably be in Washington voting to confirm John Roberts right now.
Jim Holt won 70% of the Republican primary vote less than two years ago. More people voted for him in the general election than voted for Mark Pryor when Pryor won the senate. Calhoun can't come close to that kind of name recognition and voter repetition. He could outspend Holt 100-1 and still lose. But don't worry, "jimfan". Jim is clearing off some other commitments that he has to make room for fundraising. I heard something in the tone of his voice this time. He has listened to about enough garbage. I expect him to raise $50,000 in the next 30 days.
NOTE: 56th street is the correct address, not 5th street as in post#2
'jimfan' since you are such a big fan of Jim's I know you are going to want to help. You can send him a campaign donation by mailing a check to :
Friends to Elect Jim Holt
2835 South 56th street
Springdale AR 72762
After August 12th the max limit per person goes from $1,000 to $2,000, so post-date tahat check!
Drew Pritt of Warren has said he is going to run. He was in Crossett yesterday. Pritt brags about being gay. It is very important that we work very hard for Holt to win in 2006
Would Jim consider running for Treasurer?
Perhaps after he serves as Lt. Governor!
I hope he becomes Governor afterwards. Hopefully under the Constitution Party Banner.
Can the Constitution Party help Jim raise money? Jim is going to need money from all of the real conservatives in the state. Can the CP organize a fund-raiser for Jim?

Go, Beebe!
maybe Jim was outraised 40-1 but he was not outspent by that much. Blanche ended the campaign with a load in the bank.
44% was not the Holt vote. It was a combination of the GOP base, the anti-Blanche, and a little bit of Holt vote. Throw in the marraige amendment for good measure.
His losing campaign got more votes than Pryor's winning campaign because it was a Presidential year and more people voted. Not because he has a bigger base than Pryor.
As a party loyalist, I could support Jim for Treasurer but not for Lt. Gov....not to be one heartbeat away from the mansion.
Do not go to the Beebe blogspot address. it is a pornographic site. I know Asa would not condone this so whichever over zealous supporter did this needs to remove it.
Holt was outspent 40-1. He was outraised more than 50-1, with Blanche holding onto the last couple million.

I can't believe it- ArkFam is once again floating the rumour that Holt is dropping out. We just went through this!
Of course, they are run by Calhoun. If Jim is in, they KNOW Calhoun is finished!
Mark since I am new to this site I would like to get some info. How can I get hold of the Ark-Fam group. I cant understand how anyone could say they are for families and not behind Holt. Are they like the ACLU which should mean Atheist cult Legislating Us.I would just like to look into the Ark-Fam group to see what their true agenda is.
I think Rick Calhoun's people are behind that site, if not Mr. Calhoun himself. They attack Banks and Matayo too, but since Jim is the favorite they really ping on him. All they do for Calhoun is puff pieces favoring him- and they do plenty of them.
