Look out folks, it seems the Democrats have a real primary battle for Governor on their hands. It has long been rumoured that Bill Halter is going to run for Governor as a Democrat- challenging Attorney General Mike Bebee.

It now appears that Halter is claiming to have raised $500,000 in the last ten days! http://www.halterforarkansas.com/9-26-05Release.php

In a way this is good for Republicans. It will force whoever the Democratic nominee is to spend money in a primary fight. The Democratic Party in Arkansas is starting to fissure under the mismanagement of Chairman Jason Willett. This could only lead to new wounds that may not heal by November.

On the other hand, it could be argued that this makes it tougher for Republicans. Bebee's campaign has gotten off to a very rough start, and he carries substantial baggage. Halter may have fewer negatives than Bebee, and thus be tougher to beat.

As usual, we at Arkansas Watch want to know what you think.

I think the next Governor's Race is a lose/lose situation for true Conservatives.

Is Asa conservative on illegal immigration? He can be either liberal on illegal immigration or incompetent as Top Border Control Man at the dept. of homeland security. Which do you pick?
