Bebee Staff Member Resigns State Job for Campaign

Ruth Whitney has resigned her job on Attorney General Mike Bebee's staff in order to take a job on the "Bebee for Governor Campaign".

The move follows days of ethical questions when it was discovered that the state employee spent a large amount of her day doing campaign work. The situation follows on the heels of a string of revelations that center on the theme that Bebee's office continues to treat state resources as campaign resources.

What does it mean for the horse race? Everytime the Bebee campaign starts to get some momentum, it's own way of doing business pulls it off track. The pattern is having a corrosive effect on Bebee's chances. A lot of swing voters care about corruption in government. If Asa can find a way to bring ethics and integrity in government to the forefront of his campaign, he can keep Bebee off balance.

In football terms, I would compare Bebee to a talented player who fumbles a lot. Asa is less flashy, but sounder and more cautious. If he can find a way to score points on Bebee's fumbles, he wins. Note to Asa: Bring ethics in government to the forefront. If the swing voters see it as a clean-government guy vs. an ethically challenged trial lawyer, Asa wins.
