Senate Divided on Special Session

Aaron Sadler wrote a piece about the proposed special session. It seems the Senate is very divided on it. Sadler contacted 28 senators. Here is a key quote, "Eighteen voters are required to pass most legislation in the Senate. On Monday, 15 senators said they opposed at least part of the education committees' package. Eight others supported the package, five said they were undecided and six others did not return telephone calls to their homes or offices seeking comment. One Senate seat is vacant following the recent death of Sen. Jerry Bookout, D-Jonesboro."

Got that? The majority contacted are against it. If we are lucky, they will stay that way.

Here is the other interesting aspect of the article. They quoted eight senators in an article on the fact that the Senate is split on having a special session and somehow managed to NOT QUOTE the most outspoken senate opponent of the special session, that being Senator Jim Holt of Springdale.

Did Holt just miss the calls or is this yet another issue where the liberal media knows that if they give Holt's position a fair hearing it will get traction with the people? Better to report around him, so that the liberal spending can continue! Inquiring minds want to know.

The liberal media is afraid of Holt, you are right about that.

Just like a lot of Conservatives are too.

So what you are saying is that Jim Holt was trying to use this as another way to get his name in the paper, and now that it didn't work he's whinning about it? I thought he was supposed to care more about the people and less about himself. It doesn't sound like it. The only thing that should matter is they don't have the special session, not that Jim didn't get in the papers.

Big Government Republicans are the ones afraid of Holt.

5:42, You attempt to put words in the mouth of the author. You twist it all to say things in the author's name that they did not mean. The point seemed to be that maybe the media was slanting the news in favor of having the special session by ignoring its biggest critic.

Some of you phony conservatives are so desparate to slime Holt that you will put the worst possible connotation on everything associated with him. If Holt walked on water across the Arkansas River, you would complain about the way he did it.

if there were signs of a media blackout on YOUR guy, you would complain about it too, and rightfully so.

6:03 AM, March 28, 2006

There is a reason he has a media blackout on him. Maybe you should find out why that is instead of assuming they are just out to get him.

It also affends me that you would make that comment about Holt walking on water. I don't care if it was sarcasm, Jim Holt is not Jesus, even though his followers think he is.

WE ARE NOT PHONY CONSERVATIVES JUST BECAUSE WE DON'T AGREE WITH JIM HOLT!!! What is wrong with you people. Most conservatives don't agree with Jim Holt. That is why they crossed over or didn't vote in his last race at all.

As far as I know, "nom" doesn't work for Holt. Neither do I, but I'm "whinning" about it. I'm sick of the major print media in this state. There's a reason why they're out begging people to get/keep subscriptions.

It's not just Holt, but others they dislike as well. Maybe they should try to report the news and let the readers make up their own minds.

I don't know that I agree with 6:17 saying that most conservatives are against Holt. Most conservatives I know really like him. What is everyone's problem here who keep attacking him?

Revisionist history. Holt did not lose much in the way of conseravtive votes. He lost "moderates" and he lost people that he could not reach because he did not have the money to reach them.

And he still got more votes than Governor Huckabee. Also Lincoln did a good job of getting certain groups to vote for her even though they agreed more with Jim Holt on most issues. I am thinking farmers for example.

Too bad for Holt that he was not running against a snotty Yankee elitist liberal like W was. Holt could have beat Kerry in this state, even with his piddling budget.

The typical Holt supporter gives about $50. You need forty of those to match a single fat-cat 2K contribution.

Plus, Holt's supporters are family/church people who tend to have other things to do until right near election time.

Which is exactly why the liberals keep getting their way on everything. Conservative Christians sit by and do nothing and penny pinch themselves into being a bunch of losers.

To be effective, the Jim Holt crowd needs to start participating in the local party meetings. They need to start running for school board. They need to run for county party chairs. (Which means they need to have gotten enough people signed up as members to sway the party chairmanship election.)

They need to participate in the local chambers of commerce. They need to participate in local charity activities.

Winning won't happen by electing one man and then throwing him to the wolves. You need to build activist support networks that can activate regularly with phone calls and email.

If the Constitution Party Caucus of the Republican Party wants to impress me, lets see some of their endorsed candidates win some J.P. elections, some school board elections. Let's see them create a PAC and fund their chosen candidates to the maximum allowed by law.

Winning in the battlefield of ideas is not just picking one candidate then going all ga-ga kool-aid over them. It weirds people out. Plus, it sets the candidate up to fail...no matter how great they are.

Have any of you good-time-rock-and-roll-plastic-banana-Christians called your local representative or senator and told them your postion on school funding?, Pre-K?, the Smoking Ban?, Jessica's Law?

Have any of you written letters to the editor about these topics? Have you had your friend together and did phone calls to voters asking them to call their representatives about these subjects?

Is there a single PAC (Political Action Committee) in this state that represents you? If so, do you participate in their activites? Do you support them financially? Do you serve on thier board?

Meh, bunch of lazy whiners. That is all you all are. If you seriously cared how the election turned out, you could raise $10,000 for a PAC in one night.

A bunch of tight-wadded lazy whiners who really don't want to do what it takes to win. Candidates are expendable, but ideas are not. That is why you need a stable of candidate AND be able to support them generously.

Oh, and stop being so freaky weird.

Why is it Holt supporters always ignore the important questions. They don't want to answer questions like these, because it forces them to look at the truth.

I actually don't belong to a country club, but are you trying to say there is something wrong with people that do? Why do Holt supporters have to put everyone into a specific category. You are the most unchristian group of people I've ever seen. That should worry you.

I'm sure Holt won't be devestated that I've determined his race as unwinnable. He WILL be devestated when he doesn't win and has no job and no way of supporting his family. He SHOULD be devestated that such a large group of people no longer see him as a christian man. If you call yourself a christian, you should at least TRY and act like one. You might want to do your friend a favor and tell him that so many people are questioning his salvation. That is a much bigger deal than telling him what is written about him on these blogs concerning politics.

He needs to spend less time running for a race he won't win and more time on his knees asking for forgiveness for all the sins he's committed. That goes for all of us, but the difference is, most of us repent when we have been caught in a lie. Instead he keeps spreading lies, over and over and over.

I love it when a slimer contradicts himself in the course of two consecutive sentences. Do you even read what you type? Do you actually expect anyone else to believe it?

As far as the "Country Club Republican" term goes, it's a term invented, not by me, but by others who are fed up with moneyed liberals buying their way into the party. I personally have nothing against country clubs or their members in general.

Who are the moneyed liberals you are talking about? I'm sure you must know a few. And as for the charges, do you really want to know, or would you slam back and claim them to be untrue without really listening? For the record, I've never called Holt a liar. I said he leveled some serious charges--that is hardly calling him names. But I think you just answered my earlier question: you don't really want to know--you just lied about me.

Hang on there, bud. You're confusing the references, I believe. The first one mentioning the lies (11:22, by ?) was in reference to the 9:53 post. The second one (which I posted), mentioning "the charges" was referring to YOUR post. No one called you a liar.

I will certainly be glad when this primary is over. I am so SICK of reading this cannabalistic garbage.

Senator Holt has been caught in several lies. These are lies that have been proven and he knows what they are. Why don't you tell me anything that the other 2 candidates have lied about. Most of Holt's lies have been about personal matters. Remember, these are lies being told to destroy someones personal reputation. I'm not sure about Banks, but I've never heard of Matayo being accused of lying about anything.
