SB 27 Would Put 66 Districts in Fiscal Distress

60 districts in danger of fiscal distress if they have to pay 3.3% for teacher salaries

According to figures we were given, about 60 districts will probably not be able to pay the salary increases without going into fiscal distress, thus putting their continued existence in jeopardy if the 3.3% increase in minimum teacher salaries bill passes. (We haven't had time to determine these figures but know it will affect many districts)

The small schools who are paying the minimum salary now will not receive enough increase in funding to pay the 3.3% salary increase to teachers without going into fiscal distress.

This is the exact OPPOSITE of the Supreme Court said when it ruled in favor of the 49 districts who sued the state for not giving them enough money to meet state mandates. Wouldn't we just be back in court if this happens.

House Speaker Bill Stovall is supporting a teacher salary increase that tracks the increase in funding: 1.6% in 2005-2006 and 2.4% in 2006-2007.

Please vote for Stovall's proposal. We don't need more children on 3 & 4 hr. bus rides and entire communities disrupted, and we don't need the expense of more court cases

Increased teacher salaries are a good thing, but the state should pay for any increases they require the schools to give.

HB 1014 by Rep. Jeremy Hutchinson and Dwight Fite will do more to protect rural schools than anything in recent history. It goes before the Senate Education Committee today. Say a prayer.

I believe that is the one that will undo a lot of the damage to small schools from all of these unfunded mandates. It looks like one of the few that are any good this session.

I refer to HB 1014, not the bill in the article.

I may be too simple in my thinking but. I believe in paying the teachers to do their job. Bus the superintendents, not the children. cut the fat that schools are getting.....period....Keep the kids in their home areas then work around that. Tell me also if you can name a small town in the Delta where the superintendent is not the highest paid person in town. I was sitting in the Gillett High School auditorium last week, where I also sat to watch the first man step foot on the moon. other than an airconditioning system the place looks much worse now, yet the kids are taught well by the hometown teachers who put them at ease.

A bit of cynicism here, do we bus our own prison inmates to different prisons to give them a better state funded education. Yet we do right to offer them education.

Why do you all have google at the top of the page? They are a HUGE liberal corporation. Just curious why you would support them.

I would like to point out a situation that I just became informed of. Several people have caught someone pulling up Matayo signs and replacing them with Holt signs, and also using Matayo's fence posts. This has been happening all over NWA. That is a sin and also a crime. Unless these people would like to be all over the news, then I advise them to stop.

If this is not a hoax then My guess- Doug asked people to put up his sign without telling them that he is running against Jim. When they find out, they take down his sign and put up Jim's.

That would be a great reason if several people hadn't seen it happen. They are also using Matayo fence posts. That is stealing. Other business owners that have been talked to said that one night they left and Matayo's sign was out and the next morning it was gone and Holt's was there. They are now taking down the Holt signs and putting Matayo's back.

ey anonymous slimer:

The Holt campaign is not doing what you are accusing us of. If you have any evidence GO TO THE POLICE AND THE MEDIA. Until then, keep your garbage off this blog. Matayo's partisans make one false accusation after another against Jim and it is getting REALLY tiresome.

Jim Holt has been putting up signs for years and there has NEVER been an accusation like this from any of his opponents. Only the Matayo camp starts hallucinating that Jim Holt is doing all of these terrible things.

GROW UP. If you have any real evidence instead of just more anonymous libel then go to the media and the police with it. And GO AWAY from this blog until you get the courage and integrity to put your REAL NAME with some REAL EVIDENCE on this guano you keep throwing out about Jim.

Got it?

The only proof I need is that this has happened to a family member. One night their Matayo sign was in their yard and the next morning it was gone and replaced by a Holt sign. If that wasn't done by the Holt camp, then who did it? I also heard from several businesses that said the same thing. Do you think it's just a coincidence? I don't. If this was being done to Holt, you would be screaming, and you know it. It's dirty and it has to stop.
