Pryor, Lincoln and Lieberman are not Yellowdogs, so why should you be?

This story has a highly personal component for me. I still remember a grand lady I used to work with who was a "Yellow Dog" Democrat. Nothing could change her mind. I finally asked her, "if Jesus Christ ran as a Republican and the Devil ran as a Democrat, who would you vote for?"

She hesitated for what seemed like a long while. Then she said, "I probably just wouldn't vote." I don't scare easy, as some of you have probably guessed, but that scared me. To all appearences, she was a very normal human being.

I hope she took the time to reconsider her priorities in the days that followed. Less than three weeks later she was killed in a tragic automobile accident.

I have a message for all those who consider themselves yellowdogs: you don't have to be. Not even your own party's leaders give blind alliegence to the party. This week Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman, the Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee in 04, lost the Democratic primary to the more liberal Joe Lamont. Lieberman has said he will still run for Senate as an Independent. He noted that he was a loyal Democrat, but he was loyal to his country first.

Our own Senator, Mark Pryor, is not a yellowdog Democrat either. He will support someone against a Democrat if he feels it is the right thing to do. He has endorsed Lieberman over the Demoractic nominee Joe Lamont. "I am for Joe Lieberman whether he's a Democrat or an independent," Pryor said. "I think he's a great senator. I think he's done a very good job for the state of Connecticut." Pryor also vowed to help Lieberman with some of his own campaign cash, so if you gave money to Democrat Mark Pryor know that he wants to give some of it to help defeat Democrat Joe Lamont. Senator Blanche Lincoln has refused to say who she is supporting in that race.

Why should you have blind, unreasoning faith in candidates who you know you can't trust just because they are Democrats?

Why should you vote for a Governor or a Lt. Governor who will stand idly by, if not help, when your rural school is shut down just because he is a Democrat? There are Republican candidates for those offices who have made saving your school a priority.

Why would you vote for a Governor or Lt. Governor who will not give you a straight answer on a question so basic as "should the state help homosexuals gain access to young children through foster parenting or adoption?" These are little children we are talking about. Are you seriously going to vote for men who will turn these chidren over to homosexual couples just because those men are Democrats? If something should happen to you, your own children or grandchildren may need to be placed in foster care one day. Your own children! Is voting Democrat every time (even though your party leaders don't) that important?

Will you actually support men who think your farms and homes should be turned over to the highest developer bidder just because they are Democrats? Even when there are two men who have vowed to protect your property from absue of emeinent domain standing right before you asking for your vote?

What matter if Hutchinson and Holt are Republican or Democrat? If they are the ones who have promised to protect your schools, your homes, and your children where the Democrats have not, then why shouldn't these men get your vote?

The same can be said of the Attorney General's race. Will you vote for a man who tried to sue gunmakers and then tried to deceive you about his role in the matter just because he is a Democrat? Why should you, when there is a man right there asking for your vote, Gunner DeLay, who has been honest with you and his vowed to protect your gun rights. Will you refuse him your vote just because he is not running as a Democrat? Then you outdo even Mark Pryor and Joe Lieberman.

For Secretary of State you have a man who did a terrible job running our elections while lavishing millions on making the Capitol Dome lush. Who spent your tax money on literature that said "Elect Danield". Is that a man of the people? Are you so partisan that you don't care if our elections are honest so long as the Democrat wins? If there is a Republican there who can do better, will you not give him your vote?

And for all of these men, you have Republicans who to varying degrees are pro-life. On the other side you have men who are pro-abortion, though they are mostly not honest enough, do not respect you enough, to tell you that straight up. Nevertheless it is clear that if one group of men has their way 6,000 babies a year will keep dying and if the other side has their way most of them at least shall live. Is voting Democrat so important that you will not even consider lending Republican candidates your vote for even one election before you leave this world and meet the One who made you?

If you can' see my point, at last see why I'm scared, for me and for you.

The only thing I am scared of, sans losing my hair, is losing my Civil Liberties which is exactly what will happen if neo-con Republicans keep getting elected. I would sooner vote for Grey Davis than anyone on the Republican slate ever again. They just can't be trusted with your money or your rights. Borrow and spend, spy on your own, give away your future to the Chinese, get rid of the minimum wage, get rid of taxes altogether for the wealthy: The cat is out of the bag about these fascists. Government intrusion is a way of life for the neo-con except when it comes to guns which happens to be the only thing I agree with on their agenda out of hundreds and hundreds of their misguided strategies.

What about Holt? He is against the trade agreements with the Chicoms, thinks the "Patriot Act" ought to be amended or repealed, and would let you keep the guns too. He is no neo-con, he is a paleo-con.

Yeah,

but he is a little too preachy for my blood if you know what I mean. I don't trust a man that doesn't believe in birth control of any sort plus I am sure with his lack of income that you and I and everyone else that pays taxes are supporting his addiction to children.

What rational reasoning!(?)

What should you care as long as his votes line up with what you believe? I thought the 'bedroom police' were the exclusive domain of the right wing?

Well, I never bought into that phoney argument. We all know that there will be one version of morality that will govern us. You have yours, Jim Holt has his.

Rob Baby,

I am sure you are one of those who objected to our remonstrating when Clinton was caught cheating on his wife with Lewinsky. I'll bet you said, "its his personal life" even though it took place in the White House. Well, this is Holt's personal life, and except for maybe the mis-named "earned income tax credit" I doubt he gets anything that could be described as welfare.

So what is it to you? You are judging him on his personal life, the life he lives in his own home, not at the office. He is not trying to impose his personal beleifs about birth control- if those are even his accurate views- on anyone else. Why are you snooping in his bedroom to judge him? What kind of liberal are you anyway?

SOMEONE has to have the kids in this country. Are you going to count on illegals from Mexico to pay your social security?

So then Rob, why do you just admit that Holt may be the best man for you in this race, and that you will at least CONSIDER voting for him?

What kind of liberal is Rob? He's the fascist kind of liberal, the socialist kind of liberal (same thing, I know) that he just accused Republicans of being. He accuses us of these things, he just repeats the same old liberal talking points from the same 50 year old Democrat playbook, e.g. "tax cuts for the rich" when the rich pay the large majority of the taxes in this country, while at the same time having no proof of any of it. He's just your typical, every day, run of the mill liberal. And Rob, how would you know how Jim Holt spends his money? Do you have a spy watching his house and every move he makes? By the way, that IS illegal. I swear, if liberals had half a brain they'd be conservatives. And the reason I say half a brain is because liberals don't have one in the first place.

I don't need social security because I'm already rich bitch! And yes, I have devoted a team of detectives to his every move!?! What, are you kidding, I was only kidding a bit. You guys get all lathered up about a candidate that doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell. Well, thanks for the laughs. By the way, the Holt camp is still dodging my repeated attempts for an interview. I'll be waiting by the phone.

I wouldn't worry about Rob. He's just an idiot that thinks he's someone important, when he really isn't anybody. And by the way Rob, Holt was WAY more of a chance than your Commie liberal candidate has. All your guys are losers...including you.

folks, let's not get personal here. Let's just debate the ideas and candidate positions without name-calling each other.
