Survival of the Fittest! Evolution Debate On AW August 25th

Rob Star ...............................Deathrow Bodine

Arkansas Watch is going to host a debate on Creation-Evolution issues from 6 pm to 7:30 on August 25th. The specific propositions put for for debate are 1)“"Why Intelligent Design is (or is not) a scientific theory.” and "Known evolutionary mechanisms are sufficient (or not sufficient) to explain the diversity of Earth's biota".

This originally came from when the liberal Arktimes blog condescendingly dismissed Intelligent Design and creationism as "non science" and assumed evolution. I challenged Warwick Sabin and Max Brantley to a debate on the specified topics. They did not meet the challenge. Rob Star, the one liberal with the guts to come on AW and cross intellectual swords with us, will represent the Naturalist position. Blogger Deathrow Bodine will make the case for Intelligent Design.

I will be your humble moderator. I am not going to "award points" unless one side gives a repeated non-answer to a point that his opponent has appealed to me for a ruling on. I will let the folks at home determine the winner, unless I can find two young people who have not made up their minds on these issues to score it. If I find them, I will call for "rounds" once in a while and at that point they will award each contestent 0-5 points based on how well they thought they did. Otherwise you at home are the judges.

Fans can "throw chairs in the ring" by making comments or giving facts, but this is a conservative blog, and if all the chairs come in from one side it will stack the deck. As a thumb rule, when 2 posts come in for one side, I will delete any more posts for that side until the other side gets some help from "outside the ring".

It should be fun. You don't want to miss it at 6PM on August 25th.

This should be very entertaining. I think Mr. Bodine will win.

I do, too. Anybody that tries to argue for anything other than creation never has a solid argument.

A lot of it has to do with how well they make the case- otherwise all lawyers would have the same fee.

Background?

I am a dumb hillbilly country boy from Arkansas. One day Uncle Ned (Jed is Jethro's uncle) and I were out shootin' at some FUD, and up through the ground came a bubblin’ crud... you know the rest... scummy ponds, Rob Stars… ahem…

Oh, and Rob Star’s background? Well, he’s some genius beatnik writer who called himself “an elderly dope fiend living out in the wilderness” before he off-ed himself with his kids in the next room and while talking on the phone with his wife. Serious downer, man. (On the bright side, at least he liked firearms.)

It looks to me like we have a couple of life’s real winners participating in this debate. That is just as well, because any revelation of “background” would likely cause the readers to fail to assess ideas on their merits, the logical fallacy of appeal to authority. Nonetheless, if you have some burning need to ascribe authority in the matter then just use your common sense. Everybody knows that Hunter S. Thompson is way smarter than Max Baer.

Well now, its time to say goodbye to DRB and all his kin. We would like to thank you folks fer kindly droppin’ in. You're all invited back again to this locality to have a heapin’ helpin’ of our hospitality.

Hillybilly that is. Set a spell, Take your shoes off.

Y'all come back now, y'hear?.

P.S.

Rob Star, I have got to hand it to you. You picked one colorful S.O.B. for your avatar. I fear that I likely share your appreciation for a ”perverse resistance to security and predictability, and a deliberate disregard for propriety.” That usually makes for a pretty sorry Christian, but God willing, He will eventually whip me into shape.

Viva la FSM,

DRB

I can see the day coming when candidates will be debating in forum like this. Candidates will have a moderated online debate.

This will be an interesting first step to this. It will be like a modern version of what the Greeks did when they sat around the Ampitheatres and discussed philosophy.

Prediction: Some of the folks demanding to see credentials will not have the intellectual capacity to comprehend the points that the two combatants will make tonight.

The Hutchinson newsletter picked up on this, since the controversy has been an issue in the race- hard to tell which candidate is more in favor of teaching ID, but it is an issue.

That letter goes out to lots of people. Could be a crowd tonight.
