ASU Poll Goes Like This...

Arkansas State did a poll, probably students conducting it for credit, on many statewide races. They of course showed Republicans behind, and even showed the "undecided" vote higher than the Republican vote in some cases! I have decided to take you through the paces of how I think this poll was conducted:

ASU Student: Hi, we are conducting a poll. Are you a registered voter?

Me: Yes

Student: And do you tend to vote Democrat or Republican?

Me: Republican, when I can stand any of them.

Student: So your probably not going to vote this time so thank you for your time...

Me: I'm voting.

Student: Oh.

Pause

Me: Would you like to know how I'm voting?

Student: I was going to put you down as "undecided"

Me: I'm decided.

Student: Can I tell you some facts about the candidates first?

Me: Just ask me the questions.

Student: In the race for Governor, are you for a man who believes in Arkanas, Attorney General Mike Beebe, or his opponent, former Bush lacky Asa Hutchinson, or are you undecided?

Me: Hutchinson.

Student: I sense some hesitation, I'll just put you down as "undecided".

Me: I'm gonna vote for Hutchinson.

Student: But once I give you these facts....

Me: Put me down for Hutchinson. And why did you leave Lendall and Bryan off the poll?

Student: For the same reason they were left out of the debate held on this campus.

Me: And why was that?

Student: They didn't have the poll numbers.

Me: For Lt. Governor I am voting Holt.

Student; No!

Me: Yes. Jim Holt.

Student: Sir, you seem like a reasonable man.

Me: That's right. One who is voting for Holt.

Student: Would it change your mind if you knew that Holt was a dangerous radical extremist bigot who will impose a Taliban like government on this state if elected?

Me: No.

Student: Not even to undecided? "Undecided" sounds so much more moderate and reasonable than "Holt".

Me: Put me down for Holt. Even if you told me he had a secret plan to blot out the Sun and posion Earth's waters.

Student: Has someone already called you from our group? That was going to be my next point.

Me: Just record the vote already! Any other races?

Student: Sir we also ask about the Attorney General and Secretary of State races, but I wonder if you are not being just a bit hasty on this Holt thing....

Me: I'm voting for DeLay for Attorney General.

Student: It seems sort of one sided. Shouldn't you cast one vote for the Democratic side just to be fair?

Me: I'm voting for Jim LaGrone for Secretary of State.

Student: Are you sure your a registered voter?

Me: I'm hanging up the phone now.

Student: But were not finished re-evaluating your choices yet!

Me: We're finished (hangs up the phone)

Professor: "How did that one go?"

Student: We were still dialoging when he had to go.

Professor: Undecided then?

Student: Uh Huh, just like the others.
