Immigration Bill Would Prohibit English as the Official Language

Excerpts from article concerning the Bush/Kennedy immigration bill (written after it collapsed the first time) by Eagle Forum. Title of Article "Americans Want English As Our Official Language

"Section 702(b) would have forbidden the government to "diminish" any existing rights under U.S. "laws" that concern services or materials provided by the government "in any language other than English." This section was given extraordinary scope by Section 702(c), which defined the word "laws" to include "Presidential Executive Orders."

"A good example of the effect of NOT legislating English as our official language can be seen in the June 22 release of the U.S. Department of Agriculture about the school lunch program. I quote verbatim:

""Please be advised that we have finalized the process of translating the Free and Reduced Price School Meals Application package into 25 different languages . . . Arabic, Cambodian, Chinese (Mandarin), Farsi, French, Greek, Haitian, Hindi, Hmong, Japanese, Korean, Kurdish, Laotian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Samoan, Serbo-Croatian, Somali, Spanish, Sudanese, Tagalog, Thai, Urdu, and Vietnamese."

"Ergo, all applicants for the new Z visa could apply in any language of their choice. Applicants would even be provided with tax-paid attorneys to demand their Z visas and challenge any rejection.

For the rest of this article by Eagle Forum to see how all the Presidential candidates, Democrats and Republicans, responded when asked if they believed English should be the official language of the United States, see this link: http://www.eagleforum.org/column/2007/june07/07-06-20.html Title of article is "Americans Want English As Our Official Language"

Lott Rejects Citizen Calls

Just listen to the bristling arrogance of Senate Minority leader (and Amnesty Senator from Mississippi) Trent Lott, who spoke to reporters yesterday:

“I've had my phones jammed for three weeks. Yesterday I had three people answering them continuously all day. To think that you're going to intimidate a senator or any senator into voting one way or the other by gorging your phones with phone calls -- most of whom don’t even know where Gulfport, Mississippi, is--is not an effective tactic. But it's their right to do that.”

Just for being such a jerk, I decided I would call and share my feelings about the senator. Perhaps you may want to also.

Keep in mind that Trent Lott is supposed to be the Republican Whip. Which means he is the top dog trying to force your Republican senator to vote contrary to the wishes of 80+ percent of the population and 90+ of the Republican Party.

Call any, or better yet, ALL of the above numbers. He will get the message. Share with him that you don't care if he thinks your phone call is an effective tactic, because you KNOW that your money given to an opponent will be a VERY effictive tactic. Let him know that your activism and volunteer efforts will be an effective tactic. Let him know that there will come a day when he will wish that someone (especially conservatives) would stand up and defend him.
