Louisiana Caucus Today

Because the corporate media has ignored this process we have had to rely on reports on the ground from various parishes around the state. These are unconfirmed and from various sources but all reports indicate that Ron Paul has scored at least 46 of 95 alternates selected and also will win more delegates than any other candidate. Romney and McCain were the only other candidates to have a serious presence in the state, with Romney supporters being the majority in one caucus. All other reports are that Ron Paul supporters were in the majority at all other caucus meetings.

Don't expect to hear much about it from the corporate media, but Louisiana today begins the process that will determine who 24, and likely 44, of it's 47 Republican delegates will support for President. Unlike a media-driven primary process, in this setting what matters are "boots on the ground" and strength of commitment to one's candidates. Though the final delegates will be picked later, if the ones picked today are for your guy in majority then odds are they will be for your guy when the picking is technically done. The delegates and alternates chosen today will pick who 24 of the National Convention delegates are and are slated to pick 20 more delegates later. The only way that can change is if some candidate gets a majority of the primary vote on Feb. 9th- an unlikely prospect at this point.

And guess who is expected to get more delegates than anyone else out of Louisiana today?.........

"The biggest surprise to come out of Louisiana's GOP delegate process thus far involves Ron Paul, the Texas congressman mounting a quasi-libertarian campaign that has been defined by its grassroots organization. Dore says the Paul campaign dropped off a 'whole slate" of delegates about two weeks ago " a surprise showing that wasn't expected. If any controversy arises from the delegate process, it will be from Paul's camp. 'We're being watchful, though, because we want to make sure all of the delegates were registered Republicans before the Nov. 30 deadline," Dore says, adding there was a great deal of interest expressed by nonparty voters about switching to the GOP in support of Paul. 'We started contacting registrars of voters in 17 parishes yesterday about roughly 90 people, the vast majority of which were signed up for Ron Paul.""

The article did not mention it, but no other campaign had a full slate of delegates.

It's better than that, if you're a Ron Paul supporter. The other 20 Louisiana delegates are only determined by the state primary if one candidate wins at least 50% of the vote -- something which is quite unlikely in a crowded field.

So the district delegates being selected tonight might eventually determine 44 of Louisiana's 47 delegates.

Good work by Ron Paul's grassroots supporters in Louisiana, but not all that surprising -- Ron Paul is the only candidate on the Republican side with enough grassroots volunteers nationwide, and enough cash, to compete everywhere.

The media has been underestimating him throughout the campaign, but he's gaining momentum at just the right time: 2nd place in Nevada last Saturday, another big money bomb yesterday, and 3 high profile endorsements already this week.

Stephen, you would have loved the scene at the caucus for district 7 here in Louisiana - the halls were full of Ron Paul supporters and his table was a beehive. Mitt Romney had a table. A small table; no supporters - only one person at the table. Looked very lonely.

"The Senate concluded hearings last week on the federal mismanagement of Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, and the findings were troubling. In short, the federal government wasted literally billions of dollars responding to the disaster, dollars that did little to help Katrina victims at all.

The grotesque amounts of waste, mismanagement, and outright fraud involving those funds are staggering.

FEMA spent millions on unusable temporary housing that did not meet FEMA’s own regulations for placement in flood zones. $2,000 debit cards were issued to nonexistent people; some cards were used for everything from tattoos to bail bonds. Emergency relief checks were issued to nearly one million bogus applicants. Some evacuees were housed in $400 per night hotel suites. The list goes on and on.

These abuses were inevitable, unfortunately. They are the direct result of a top-down, centralized, bureaucratic system that wrongly assumes Washington planners always know best, that every issue and problem should be addressed at the federal level. But clearly Washington officials were in no position to know what was needed in the gulf coast in the aftermath of a hurricane.

Congress reacted to Katrina in typical Washington-knows-best fashion. It immediately appropriated over $60 billion with no planning or debate, mostly to show that government was “doing something.” Political grandstanding masqueraded as compassion. As with all rapid government expenditures, the money was spent badly. Every member of Congress must have known that throwing $50 billion at FEMA, the very agency that failed so badly to prepare for Katrina, would not turn out well.

All federal aid for Katrina should have been distributed as directly as possible to local communities, rather than through wasteful middlemen like FEMA and Homeland Security. Considering the demonstrated ineptitude of government at both the federal and state level in this disaster, the people affected by the hurricane and subsequent flood no doubt would have been better off if relief money simply was sent directly to them or to community organizations dedicated to clean-up and reconstruction.

The best way to rebuild New Orleans is to provide entrepreneurial incentives for people and businesses willing to do the hard work involved. I voted for several bills last fall that provide some measure of tax relief for Katrina victims, but more could be done. Imagine the revitalization that would occur if Congress declared New Orleans a federal tax-free zone for 5 or 10 years.

It’s not compassionate simply to throw money at a problem, especially when that money is wasted and does not help the very people who need it most. It’s not compassionate for politicians to spend money that doesn’t belong to them. It’s not compassionate to instill false hope that Washington can solve every problem and respond to every emergency. It’s certainly not compassionate to create huge deficits that hurt poor people the most through inflation, as government prints more and more money to pay its bills.

Definitions:
A "civil" right is really a government privilege. If it is granted by government it can also be eliminated by government. Also, if it is granted by government it is severely regulated by government.

UNALIENABLE: Please do NOT confuse or pervert this word into “inalienable”.

The Constitution is NOT a contract.
The Constitution is a LAW written by the People, approved by the several States, establishing a body politic whose purpose is to act when “called” upon for the mutual defense of the States and the Rights of the People.
The Constitution also establishes other specific responsibilities of the United States. The Constitution ONLY lists the few and specific things the US can do. The Constitution does NOT list the things the US is prohibited from doing. The US is prohibited from doing a billion trillion things. If “it” [<- for Billy Bob Clinton] is not specifically permitted by the Constitution “it” is left to the States or to the People.
Understand what freedom and liberty truly are. Freedom IS free, but there are liars and thieves that want to take it from you. Be [a]ware of the shysters.

This is great news. People have to remember it's the delegates that will pick the GOP nomination! If there's no clear winner (a brokered convention) then Ron Paul will have a real shot to WIN!!! We have to keep fighting.

I still have people tell me I'm part of the tin foil hat brigade, I just laugh at them and keep plugging Ron. I sent in what money i could yesterday on MLK day and I have signs, pamplets ect. I'm excited for the first time in 50 years about politics!

It's interesting to see that a state that has had the most at stake from the federal government over the past years in the wake of Katrina, looks to the only fiscal conservative candidate that speaks of smaller government and the elimination of departments like FEMA.

Certainly something to pay attention to - too bad the MSM will ignore this or spin it some other way. Congrats to LA for waking up America!

We rocked Ron Paul in the Red Stick!!!!!!!!! We showed the major media that they can shove it!!!! We've had enough down hear and were showing it in full colors!!! Our state has so much support for Dr. Paul compared to ANY one candidate that it would blow your minds!!! The media can't afford to come down here because the Cajun's will set them straight!!! The only other ticket that is battling Ron Paul ticket the most is the Pro-Life ticket put together. Hmmm Pro-Life Roe just backed Dr. Paul..... The time is now!!! Something that has not been discussed, and I do not think that it should be discussed right now, but there is a little tidbit in the National Republican Rules that will go into effect if there is a brokered convention. In order for a Presidential Candidate to be considered from the floor of the National Convention, they must have the support of a majority of the delegates from Five (5) state delegations. If the reports from LA are true, then this could be the first of our five. SD I believe has the last scheduled primary, on June 3. Some of the small states that have later primaries might see way more activity in their state then they ever dreamed.

In an effort to find out what was happening with the Caucus today, I googled "Louisiana Caucus". This was the 1st result! The next result is "Ronald Reagan" wins Louisiana Caucus". At cnnpolitics.com there is not a mention of it. Thanks for posting about this. Please post the final results.

Read the link to the new update. McCain is not the winner. The simply delayed Paul from being the winner by challenging enough Paul ballots so that it APPEARED that McCain got more. If the challenged ballots are resolved honestly, 6 of the 7 districts are liable to flip to Paul.

Is it true that if no candidate in the coming Louisiana primary gets 50% of the vote that another 22 delegates go to the candidate who won the caucus?
