Latest Benton County Follies: Million in Taxes Held

In the latest of a string of embarrassments for Benton County government, Treasurer Gloria Lee Peterson has discovered that $1.4 million dollars in taxes from up to two years ago has been sitting in five bank accounts rather than being forwarded to the local entities that are due the money. By law, they are supposed to distribute the money every month.

This reaches back into the administration of former Judge Gary Black, and of course the current County Judge Dave Bisbee. On a positive note, I do want to add that Judge Bisbee recently saved the life of a woman involved in a boating accident on Beaver Lake. Judge Bisbee is to be congratulated for this act of heroism.

It feels good to be able to report some good news about a public figure for a change.
